Writing Test Papers for the University Level
Writing Test Papers for the University LevelNow that I have a little experience with writing test papers I can confidently say that you should have a good idea of what kind of quality paper you should write before you start. What this really means is that you should not be spending weeks preparing for a test. When you do get to write a paper for a real exam, you should be writing it the way you would normally write a school essay. You might be well aware of the importance of having your paper fully reviewed before you start to write, and I agree with this wholeheartedly. You will need to have an overall idea of what is being asked of you and how to answer these questions so that you do not get too far off the beaten track. This is what will give you confidence to go on to write a high quality paper. It is also a large part of your preparation to know how to tell if you are on track. For example, I always found myself looking over my paper and asking myself, 'How did I do?' Often I just did not feel that I had answered enough questions correctly. This shows that you need to make sure that you can put yourself in the right frame of mind to answer all the questions in a fully-answered test.Having prepared well, you will be able to write test papers quickly and effectively. Some students find that they have to revise many times before they finally get something they are happy with. This is completely normal and is due to you having focused on the various types of tests and how they will be worded and answered. There are two key techniques that can help you to quickly move through the paper at a high level of fluency. First, ensure that you learn a couple of formulas before you begin writing. These formulas include numerical answers to work problems and the correct ways to show that you are working through the problem from the standpoint of a student who knows little or nothing about the subject matter.Secondly, you should use the essay format throughout the paper. Usi ng the correct form of this format will help you to actually cover more ground without feeling that you are spending more time than necessary. The essay should feel as though it has been composed properly and that there are no mistakes to worry about. One of the most common things that I have seen many students do when they start to write is to just jump straight into the problem or argument and then spend the rest of the paper re-wording everything. This could not be further from the truth. Instead, you should make a good effort to keep to the general topic at hand and then build off of that. The only exception to this rule is when you are introducing a concept that you really do not know much about. In this case, you should make sure that you learn as much as possible about the topic before you start to write a paper. Only then should you begin to work on the discussion sections of the paper.
